PS 298 is a public school construction project developed for the New York City School Construction Authority and designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The approximately 110,000-square-foot educational facility includes classrooms, specialized instruction spaces, an auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, and other student-focused amenities serving the Queens community. Today, the building houses PS 211, also known as Elm Tree Elementary School, serving elementary school students in New York City.
Giaquinto Masonry contributed to the building’s distinctive masonry envelope, which reflects the industrial character of the surrounding neighborhood through contemporary brick construction, articulated façades, shallow lintels, and carefully detailed window openings. A colorful mural integrated into the street-level exterior introduces movement and visual interest, creating a welcoming arrival experience while complementing the building’s modern architectural expression. The result is a thoughtfully designed educational facility that blends durable masonry construction with contemporary school design.
